During Net Zero Week, myself and Richard Collis had the privilege of attending the ‘Sustainability in Practice’ event held at the ICAEW’s Chartered Accountants’ Hall in London.

With the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) recently issuing the first global sustainability disclosure standards, welcoming in a new era of sustainability-related disclosures in capital markets worldwide, and it also being Net Zero Week 2023, the event was an excellent and timely opportunity to share the room and network with around 100 people from across the profession, who share the same passion and enthusiasm in working towards a net zero and creating a sustainable future.

It provided valuable experience in understanding the ICAEW’s thinking around environmental, social, and governance (ESG), its scope for long-term sustainability, and how we as a firm can make an impact both directly as a firm and exponentially through supporting our clients and wider business.

Integrating sustainability into our strategy

From hearing guest speakers discuss carbon offsetting and learning how firms across the globe are implementing sustainability and ESG into their business operations, to an insightful session on utilising AI powered analytics to generate better insights on carbon reporting, we’re even more motivated as a responsible business to support opportunity and enable success for our clients, whilst also making a real difference on a broader scale.

The interactive sessions and roundtable discussion also allowed us to get to the core of how we operate to achieve sustainable success through our sustainability and responsible business practices, by looking at entrepreneurs and SMEs just starting out through an ESG lens, and how we’re best placed to advise in helping them achieve their ambitions.

Every impact makes a difference. Not just for the future of our profession, but for the future of our planet.
